Twenty Questions with Porn Star Jessica Ryan

"I was a chameleon. Sort of goth, sort of hippie, and varying degrees of nerd. I played the trombone in jazz band, but stopped after a while because marching band in wool suits in Arizona was torture. I was friends with cheerleaders, enjoyed my art classes and took dance. I always had older friends, and wasn't into any of my high school peers, I had crushes on teachers, but I never really saw that as an option. I had made the mistake in not challenging myself enough my junior year and due to attendance rules nearly flunked out. I thought my system of going in for tests, turning in homework assignments, getting new ones would have been sufficient until they changed the rule for attendance. Fortunately I found a program with my local college where I could accelerate the process and take college level courses, ultimately graduating early. I had also finally found a pool of guys that interested me and classes that kept my attention."

"It's funny to think that my first encounter sexually, was essentially a sloppy blow job with my best friend because I was too nervous to do it myself. "That 8 year relationship I was telling you about? I had so many fantasies and I wasn't sure where to start. I had no idea how or where to go and found a few listings on Craigslist. If leaving my perfect fiance who just got out of the Navy wasn't enough, I had so many years of fantasy to act out and cheated on him with a man that was 31 years older than myself. My family was certainly not going to learn that I got into porn.

I left my mistake with a U-Haul trailer to move to L.A. and didn't look back. With my UHaul trailer, I drove from northern San Diego to the San Fernando Valley to make it to a 9 AM call time for Penthouse, leaving my Xterra and U-Haul while my agent drove me to set."

"That's a tough question. I came back in large part because I knew I could do only fans or cam and distance in the pandemic while I was a full time student, or so I thought. I had forgotten how hard it is to manage a successful career in any form of sex work. One thing led to another and I was reminded why I loved being in porn from the start. In the process, I hope that I can help empower people to own their sexuality, and be another face to help humanize the industry.

I will dabble in the production side of things, and I am playing with the idea of going on a deep dive into marketing of the bachelor's variety. The next year will be fun and exciting as I am redefining what I will be doing for the next 20 + years."
