Julia Is Just the Best

AVN Hall of Famer Julia Ann has five AVN Award nominations, a new production company, and has made a whole lot of positive change for the porn industry in her work to prevent California's Prop 60 from becoming law. She is a true role model, not just for women in the industry but for every woman who seeks success in her own business ventures. I am proud to know her and hope that she gets to add at least one more accolade to her list of many after the AVN Awards Show on Saturday.

Congrats on your nomination for AVN's Best Marketing Project for your work in fighting California's Prop 60! What about the proposition moved you most into taking so much action against it?

"There were so many things wrong about Prop 60 that it's difficult to focus on any one thing. However, as a Californian and a taxpayer, I was insulted that someone could write and fund themselves into a tax payer-funded job that they couldn't easily be fired from and bet on the biases of the average voter to pass his agenda. Sadly, too many people believe in the stigmas that have been attached to the adult industry and the performers."

You also are also up for Mainstream Star of the Year. You did a ton of mainstream press as part of your fight against Prop 60. How do you think that the media impacted what happened with the voters' response to that issue?

"The whole thing started with an avatar. I made myself a "No on Prop 60" avatar and asked if anyone else wanted one. I had no idea it would take off the way it did. The avatars definitely made it easier to catch the eye of the media and media was the only way to beat it. The proponent of Prop 60 had millions at his fingertips to create commercials and billboards so it was imperative for us to reach the voters through social media, editorials, radio spots, and basically anywhere else we could."

You are wonderful in your AVN nominated performance in Zero Tolerance's "Keep It In The Family". Who/what inspired your take on that character?

"When I'm in a movie, I usually just find that part of me that relates to the character. Plus the director, [AVN Hall of Famer Mike] Quasar and I have worked together so often that I think he puts me in roles that he believes I would enjoy."

As a former AVN MILF Performer of the Year winner, how is being up for that award yet again?

"It's always nice to be recognized, but I do wonder why the division between Performer of the Year and MILF Performer of the Year. Do we hit an age bracket where we are no longer good enough to be a Performer of the Year? When the Performer of the Year gets a Tag Watch, does the MILF Performer of the Year get a Seiko? It confuses me."

Do you have any of your fellow MILF Performer of the Year nominees who inspire you or just that you really enjoy working with? Are there any of these women that you love working with?

"Yes. I love them all."

I have always respected the hell out of the work you do for animals. What is going on with your animal advocacy at present?

"I don't rescue as much as I used to, but I am still active and usually have one dog that I'm trying to help. Right now my dog Tarna has been diagnosed with Megaesophagus and it could be life threatening, so my focus is on her."

Your WomenByJuliaAnn site is amazing. What have you enjoyed most about it creatively?

"I love the support system that has been already been created by its members. The site is still in its infantile stage but as it matures, my goal is that it will take on its own life. I wanted to create a safe space for sexual growth, fun, information, health, and emotional support."

What advice would you give a brand new performer who wants to be as successful a performer as you in their own career?

"Go to work, do your job, recognize that everyone on set has the same level of importance, don't take yourself too seriously, go home, take care of yourself, and the people around you and save for the future. Be happy."

What is coming up for you?

"As of now, my life is WomenByJulia.com and the video releases from WomenByJuliaAnn that are being distributed by Girlfriends Films. In fact Women By Julia Ann's "Because I Am Woman 2" will be released at the end of December. [It's out now. - HK] It's very exciting for me to have such amazing women in my productions. The newest release features Dana DeArmond, DiAnna Rome, Mercedes Carrera, Abigail Mac and me."

Is there anything that you would like to say to your fans here at Fleshbot?

"Thank you to everyone. It's been an amazing ride for me and it's not over yet."
