Karla Lane has been around the BBW porn world for quite some time, and it was a pleasure to see her become the second performer to ever be crowned as AVN's BBW Performer of the Year. It seemed like a great time to check in with Lane to see what this award did to her curvy, sexy world.

What does it feel like taking home the biggest award that porn gives to a BBW performer?

"It is still very surreal . . . January 23 was my birthday and I turned 29, and I also happened to celebrate my 11 years in porn as a performer. I really didn't expect it. To be honest, I wasn't even looking at the screen when my name flashed on the screen. I heard the reaction of my friends, and then I looked around to see it and started crying instantly. It was the pinnacle of an 11-year career—so absolutely amazing."

Of your fellow nominees, who did you think was going to take home the trophy, other than you?

"Outside looking in, it may look like we've had some speed bumps along the way. Whether in this industry or even with one another, but as a new or semi-new genre that's still growing (no pun intended), those are going to happen and this year, like most, I believed anyone of us had a chance. Some campaigned more, some featured more. I don't think anyone really knew until it was announced. I was already becoming the Susan Lucci of my category. I even started trending #WinOrLucci on my twitter. The only one I really put a name on, and I joked with her about it, was April Flores. Only as over the years she's become a real close friend. Also, because I threatened that if she won for a 3rd time in a row, I'd steal her trophy. Yes, I did. I told her I would steal it from her house and I'd write my name on it in Sharpie. We laughed about it over ramen on a girls' night out."

What does winning the award mean to you?

"It's the recognition of 11 years to me. I didn't need it for my career to be validated—that's not what I mean, but it's that compliment, that thank you, [the knowledge] that not just my friends and family who know and support me, and not just my fans who I truly love getting to interact with daily, but people in my industry as a whole think I'm doing something right . . . at least for now."

What do you hope that having the award does for you?

"I hope it opens a few doors with different companies, maybe some that have never shot a BBW before. I'm super excited to see where the future leads. I'm not asking for a feature, I'm asking for one shot, one scene. Let me show you what I have to work with."

If you could request any scene partner out there, who would you choose?

"I'm going to have to break this up in 2 sections. I'm in the mood to show off my deepthroat abilities, and who better to do that with than last year's deepthroat queen, Karmen Karma? Male talent who I would like to work with is the man with the million-dollar penis himself, Keiran Lee. I would love to show him what a big girl can do with his million-dollar dick."

You respond to your fans a lot on Twitter. What kind of reception did you winning the award have with them?

"Let's just say I'm a Twitter whore. I'm pretty much on there A LOT and sadly I don't ever really tweet my scene links or merchandise, and I still don't have my own paid webpage. What my fans usually see me tweet about is sports, food, dinner with the husband or 100 breakups with my boyfriend. I'm always trying to reply and go back and forth with my followers a lot. Let's be honest, a grey cloud started over social media during the AVN Awards. I contemplated it for awhile (I think I did, remember, it was a crazy weekend) but that next morning, everyone was still asleep as I was sitting in a bubble bath crying happy tears. I had to share it and I wanted to do it with class. I didn't want to brag as I know some were sad/mad about not winning but I needed my friends and fans to be there in that moment with me. If you had never got a RT on Twitter before you sure did that day, it was your forum to shine too."

What type of scenes/movies do you hope to do as BBW Performer of the Year?

"I'm not sure. I know I want to do something out of my norm, so maybe some Kink.com and some kinky type scenes."

What do you want to achieve next?

"I'm not sure. All I know is I'm so happy for the opportunities that are going to come from winning the AVN award."

What advice do you have to a new BBW just getting into porn now?

"Do what makes you happy. A lot of us hear we're too big or too small to work for particular companies and honestly, it's just all about attitude. A great way to start is camming. Build a fan base that way, then go to the companies you want to work with and show them you have a loyal fan base already. Then it's not all about size, it's about attitude and how you present your sexuality."

Is there anything you want to say to your fans here at Fleshbot?
