Tim Fountain's "Sex Addict"

Here's a brilliant way to get laid and make art in the process. In "Sex Addict," a one-man show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, writer/director Tim Fountain cruises for dates on Gaydar. As the audience watches on a giant screen, Fountain peruses member profiles and then the audience decides who Fountain arranges a rendezvous with. Fountain then heads off to meet his new audience-selected pal - and the following night he reports back on his date the previous evening. (Oh, and in case you're wondering, the people he communicates with on Gaydar never find out they're being incorporated into a show.) For Fountain, this bit of "reality theatre" doesn't diverge from his normal daily routine: "It's part of my life," Fountain says. "I get up in the morning, have a cup of tea, go on Gaydar and look at erect penises." Yea, except now curious straights pay to watch him do it. (R.S.)
