The Feminism Of Giving Blowjobs

People do generally like what I share online, but I invariably get comments like: “But, you’re a feminist!” What’s your point? Oh, that’s right… There’s a common misconception that blowjobs can’t be a feminist act. Let me clear that right up for you, because we wouldn’t want that nasty rumour taking root. The thing is, I’m a happy, powerful, successful and self-actualized woman who loves giving blowjobs… So much so that I chose to (among many other things) give them for a living. Because my niche is so obviously linked to the surface idea of one-sided pleasure, people assume I must be coerced, faking it or that I’m not getting any pleasure of my own either on or off-screen. This couldn’t be further from the truth, and I think that debunking these ideas is key to identifying blowjobs as a feminist sex act.

The Myth Of The Perfect Porn Pussy

The Myth Of The Perfect Porn Pussy

In the mainstream sphere, porn tends to get blamed for a wide variety of social ills. Some of these are legitimate criticisms: porn is certainly responsible for the rise of the Brazilian wax, and—in combination with America’s appalling lack of sex education—can give people skewed ideas about the way sex

The Hollywoodization Of Sasha Grey

The Hollywoodization Of Sasha Grey

“Neu Sex,” Sasha Grey’s manifesto/photo book, comes out tomorrow. We were supposed to have an interview with Sasha to publicize the book’s launch, but we do not. This is the story behind that. A little over a month ago, I received my review copies of the book from Vice—which were

Pretentious Atlantic Piece Deems Porn, Male Sexuality Nasty And Destructive

Pretentious Atlantic Piece Deems Porn, Male Sexuality Nasty And Destructive

When I saw that the current issue of the Atlantic had a piece about how “[t]he new world of porn is revealing eternal truths about men and women,” I was initially excited. Then I read the piece. Was it too much to hope that the Atlantic—a relatively open minded, liberal

The Problem With Making A XXX "Rocky Horror"

The Problem With Making A XXX "Rocky Horror"

In a world where shows like “Two and a Half Men” have been deemed appropriate for porn parodying, it’s refreshing to see something actually sexy get selected for pornification. And disappointing to know it probably won’t be done properly. Oh, Wicked’s “The Rocki Whore Picture Show” will likely be sexy,

"30 Rock" Brings Back Tired Trope Of "Porn" For Women

"30 Rock" Brings Back Tired Trope Of "Porn" For Women

Last night’s episode of “30 Rock” concluded with another brilliant idea from Jack Donaghy. Unfortunately, it’s one we’ve seen many, many times before. Yes, in order to revamp the cable business, Jack decided to pursue the untapped market of “porn” for women: or, as demonstrated in the clip above, a

This Is What Is Wrong With "Not The Cosbys XXX" (And By Extension, Porn)

As a general rule, I’m pretty difficult to offend (when you work adjacent to the porn industry, you sorta have to be). But this morning I received a press release that pushed me over the edge. What was the offending press release? Why, the plainly titled “Do White Girls Make

Farewell, Dear Friend: Saying Goodbye To Nerve’s Photo Section

This week, Nerve.com announced that they’d hired a new CEO—and with this new hire would come some changes to the website’s format. I’ll cut to the chase here: Nerve is moving its nude photos offsite. It’s a sad announcement, and one that sucks on many levels (which, of course, I’ll

April Flores, We Love You More Than Ever

April Flores is many things: gorgeous, smart, sexy—and yes, a BBW (and a pornstar!). And she doesn’t take kindly to people who say derogatory things about BBW porn. In a recent blog post, the lovely Ms. Flores took an adult industry magazine to task for publishing a demeaning, offensive article

Sasha Grey Is Nobody’s Victim

Sasha Grey is many things: pornstar, model, actress, musician… but she most definitely, emphatically, is not a victim. And she doesn’t take kindly to insinuations that she’s doing anything other than exactly what she wants. We doubt that Jenni Perez meant to raise the ire of the lovely Ms. Grey

Sasha Grey, Crossover Star

Not surprisingly, the recent announcement that Sasha Grey will be playing the lead role in Steven Soderbergh’s “The Girlfriend Experience” has led much of the mainstream media to “discover” Ms. Grey. MTV, Variety, and the Guardian, among others, have all penned pieces about our reigning Crush Object. It’s mostly what

Why Porn Matters

Why Porn Matters

There’s a new book out now called “The Porning of America,” which argues that “porn culture” has become so pervasive in everyday life that it is inescapable. Even five-year olds can’t walk into a toy store without being confronted by it and in the words of the author, this means

Porn: The Root Of All Evil?

Of course we all know that porn is a horrible blight on our culture, but is it worse than watching emo kids get kicked in the balls by squirrels on YouTube? Lewis Black’s “Root of All Evil” is a new comedy show that asks stand up comedians to debate useless
