Happy Fifth Anniversary To Girlsway!

Adult Time's Girlsway channel is celebrating their fifth anniversary and in honor of that special occasion, Adult Time Chief Creative Officer Bree Mills directed a special scene titled "Interrupted Anniversary" which you should absolutely check out. It seemed like a good time to check in with Mills to see what she wanted to share about Girlsway's past and future.

Hello, Bree! How are you doing? How are things?

"Happy new year! Things are going very well, thank you. Busy … but it is always better to be swamped than to be bored."

Congrats on the fifth anniversary of Girlsway! How does it feel to reach that milestone with this site?

"In many ways, it feels like it was just yesterday when we launched Girlsway. But, at the same time, Girlsway has become such an important brand to so many people that it feels almost as if it has always been around! Overall, I am proud of how our all-girl studio has evolved over the past 5 years. It went from being an initial idea in my head to this living, breathing thing that so many people have shaped and helped to grow into what it is today."

How do you think that lesbian porn has evolved in the past five years? What do you think Girlsway has contributed to those changes?

"When we first launched, lesbian porn very much considered an afterthought compared to boy-girl content … with the exception of a few pioneering companies such as Girlfriends Films, who took the genre seriously. Now, it is one of the most searched categories in the world. Girlsway wasn’t the first all-girl studio in existence… but we were the first mainstream company to launch a major network dedicated exclusively to all-girl content. We were also the first to produce high-end feature films within the lesbian genre and the first (I believe) all-girl studio to win a major film award at AVN, with 2017’s ‘Vampires’ taking home the award for best overall action-thriller. If we have contributed anything, I think we have shown that lesbian is not a niche. It is one of the most important genres of adult content and can encompass so many different stories and shooting styles. It was also the origin point for my personal career and a lot of the studios and platforms we have launched since. Adult Time wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the experience of creating Girlsway!"

When you first created Girlsway, what goal did you have creatively for the site? Has that goal changed over time?

"My original vision for Girlsway was to create an erotic universe where the “girls would always have their way” and a space where our creative team could explore different sub-genres and shooting styles. Early on, we struck a chord with our unique approach to adult narrative content, by emulating a lot of storytelling techniques you find in mainstream TV and soap operas: recurring characters, inter-connected plots, Easter eggs, and tongue-in-cheek humor that would often be about ourselves and our fans. We also began to incorporate member stories directly into our production planning which offered a unique opportunity for our fans to co-create content with us. Over the years, we’ve produced 8 feature films and over a dozen mini-series, on top of stories written by performers, vignette series, and special spin-off series such as We Like Girls. Even if our content and creators have evolved over the years, we’ve always stayed true to that lesbian-first vision throughout."

Girlsway recently got rid of the Girl Of The Month title. Why was that decision made? What other changes will fans see this year?

"During the past five years, we’ve presented 60 beautiful GOTM showcases. Each of these performers are an important part of our history and will always be Girlsway Girls! But it was time for a change. We took the decision because we were no longer seeing the same levels of interest from performers or fans as we once had and, honestly, with so many monthly titles out there now, without a big switch in focus, I can understand why they don’t carry the same weight they once did. So, we have decided to reinvest those efforts into a few new programs for 2020, including a monthly special release that I am creatively overseeing called “Girlsway Presents” and more guest directing and collaboration opportunities to elevate our performers."

Girlsway's strong acting roles have always been a big part of the studio's draw, in my view. Why do you think that other studios did not put the same emphasis on all-girl plot based features?

"I have no idea! Perhaps because, for so long, lesbian content was considered secondary to other genres … especially when it came to larger, higher budget projects. But, now I look at studios like ‘All Her Luv’ and ‘Girl Girl’ and you can see a real uptick in the focus on plot-based content."

A huge congrats on Girlsway's awards nominations this year, along with your own! What have you enjoyed most about what Casey Calvert and Eli Cross have been bringing to their Girlsway work?

"Thank you! I have worked with Casey as a performer over the past several years and have always been very impressed with her work ethic as a performer and her career as a successful self-producer of both adult clips and mainstream projects. It was a great pleasure to bring her on board as an official director this year, alongside her producing partner Eli Cross. Together, they’ve created some amazing episodes and I’m especially proud to support her transition behind the camera. Whitney Wright, another performer who’s transitioned behind the camera, has also begun shooting for Girlsway. In total, we had 7 different female directors create Girlsway content this past year and I’m extremely proud of that!"

Web Young, Girls Try Anal and Mommy's Girl have all been big successes as Girlsway subsidiary sites. Will we see more of those in the future or will we see more of a diversity within the main Girlsway site itself?

"All three are still actively updating as sub-sites and series within Girlsway and we’ve been steadily experimenting and adding new series over the past year, including ‘Moms on Moms’ and my docu-series, ‘We Like Girls.”

What is coming up for Girlsway? What should viewers be ready to check out?

"Lots of lesbian sex! And some great new series including True Lesbian, The Oral Experiment, and a lot of other tricks up our sleeve!"
