Only in Florida: Really? Porn is the Problem?

You Know Porn Is for Adults, Right?

In my column Only in Florida, I'll be taking you down to the Sunshine State for the latest and greatest sex stories that can only be found in the craziest state in the union.

Over the past couple of weeks, Florida seems to have been on its best behavior when it comes to wacky, unusual, and often times very public displays of sex and debauchery. Sure, that seems odd for a state shaped like a penis, but I was beginning to think that Florida was on its way to not being, well, so Florida like anymore. Then Florida man and State Representative Ross Spano went and decided to make Florida all kinds of Florida again by trying to pass a law that says porn is a public health hazard.

Really? Porn is your biggest problem? Porn? Really?

Never mind the horrible tragedy that happened a few days ago, but I'm pretty sure porn is the least of your problems, Mr. Spano. According to Mr. Spano:

“Research has found a correlation between pornography use and mental and physical illnesses, difficulty forming and maintaining intimate relationships, unhealthy brain development and cognitive function, and deviant, problematic or dangerous sexual behavior,"

Of course, he didn't state who did the research and any of the stats he's quoting. And yes, he totally brought up the fact that children looking at porn is bad. It's almost as if porn isn't meant for children, it's something for adults. Sadly, the House Health & Human Services Committee voted 18-1 to pass the resolution. Hopefully, this bill won't go anywhere, but it's Florida so, you know...

Really the only question remaining is what is in Mr. Spano's browser history? You know, when someone fights this hard against porn, they typically end up being into some kinky shit. Guess we'll have to wait to find out. Seriously, Florida, why don't you focus on the dudes throwing alligators into drive-thru windows at Wendy's instead of ruining everyone else fun?
