Okay, This One Is Kind of Cool

In my column Only in Florida, I'll be taking you down to the Sunshine State for the latest and greatest sex stories that can only be found in the craziest state in the union.

Normally I'd be taking you guys down the crazy, wacky, and often completely nude road of some Florida resident who has done something rather odd, but this time, I have to admit this is kind of cool: an Underwater Burlesque show.

Wreck Bar in Fort Lauderdale is putting on a little show featuring Marina “MeduSirena” Anderson as a mermaid underwater actually doing burlesque. "MeduSirena Late Night AquaBurlesque" is inspired by Esther Williams movies of the 1940s and 1950s.

“I had to evolve it from a certain point because there really weren’t that many people to draw upon to learn,” she says. “And I’ve been a free diver for a very long time, so I pretty much synthesize the free diving and my love for Esther Williams’ films.”

“Underwater burlesque wasn’t so unusual at one time. These were the hooks that would get people to come into these bars,” she says. “Now, with these porthole bars almost extinct, some of us have to try to to keep it going for the sake of the art form and for the sake of the establishment. To keep it alive.”

I have to say this is something I'm almost willing to go to Florida to see... almost. I kind of hope the bar or someone will post a video of MeduSirena doing her show. And I'm for sure certain that other places will so be doing something similar to this. Also, we'll finally have an answer to how you hold your breath and take off your top at the same time.

Next time, I promise we'll go back to the weird.
