Sex Robots May Not Be So Far Away

PORNSTARS

Sure They Could Kill Us, But How Long Do Updates Take?

As we all learned from watching Westworld if one was able to create a theme park filled with robots with whom people could have sex, that person would make a pretty penny. And sure we all laughed off the idea of sex robots because... it's sex robots. We are nowhere close to that kind of technology. But then again, maybe we are. The Love and Sex with Robots Conference (yes, it's a real thing) at Goldsmith University in London thinks we might be closer than we've ever been before.

Really, the only thing I find shocking about all of this is that Glamour magazine is the one reporting on this. Seriously, there needed to be a ton more magazines, new outlets, and online information websites covering this convention 24/7. Anyway, here are some of the highlights of the Love and Sex with Robots Conference:

People would do it with robots

At first blush, robot sex seems a little freaky, but apparently a lot of people got over it. One study presented at the conference found that 40 percent of straight men would buy a sex robot. People who liked robots in general and saw human qualities in them were more likely to be open to that possibility.

Sex Robots might be only 10 years away

At least that's the prediction of David Levy, author of Love and Sex With Robots. "We have companion robots, and a partner robot is the logical continuation of the trend," he said. "In the next 10 years it is perfectly achievable in software to create a robot companion that is everything that people might want in a spouse—patient, kind, loving, trusting, respectful, and uncomplaining." Then again, he added, "some enjoy the friction of a relationship and may want to marry an aggressive robot. Some people would find that exciting." Another prediction of Levy's: With their permission, we could have sex with robotic replicas of celebrities.

And of course, Sex Robots would probably kill us all

One area where robots already have humans beat is stamina—which could end up putting our own endurance to the test. “If the machine over-exerts the human, it reduces the possibility of human sex,” warned Oliver Bendel, a scientist at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Switzerland.

Of course, even armed with the knowledge that sex robots would most likely kill us I really don't think that's going to put a dent in the market. I think I speak for us all when I say our biggest worry is long updates. Wouldn't you hate to be in the mood and your sex robot still has 3 hours left on the latest software update?
