“American Gods” Promises One Hell of a Pilot

Pretty Sure Nothing Like This Has Happened on Television Before

It’s pretty safe to say that we are in a golden age of television. It seems like every couple of months a new show comes out that completely hooks the entire country. While I’m sure there will be another show in 2016 that keeps our attention, in 2017 American Gods is sure to be the most talked about. 

If you haven’t heard about American Gods, it’s a book by nerd god Neil Gaiman that is being turned into a television series. Here’s the quick plot synopsis from IMDb:  

A recently released ex-convict named Shadow meets a mysterious man who calls himself "Wednesday" and who knows more than he first seems to about Shadow's life and past.  

So, if you can’t figure out why this show is probably going to be best show of 2017, the first episode is going to show something that has never been seen on television before . . . a man-eating vagina. Well, not so much a man eating vagina, but a man being eaten by the vagina of the goddess of love Bilquis (played by Yetide Badaki).  

For non-book readers, here's a clue to why Neil Gaiman fans were concerned about Bilquis' introduction. The first "American Gods" chapter that features the goddess eating a man through her, er, lower set of lips. Some believe that the scene is "unfilmable" because, well, nobody likes the idea of being swallowed whole by a woman that way. However, the Bilquis scene is officially complete. In addition to that, it will be one of the first shocking things that viewers will get to see in "American Gods". The scene has already been filmed, so it’s going to happen.

The real question is how much we will see. Showrunner Bryan Fuller has confirmed there will be male nudity and “digital erections,” but as far as female nudity, that is still a question. 2017 isn’t that far away, but hopefully we’ll get another hint soon enough.
