eSports League Bans Porn Sponsorship

Porn Site Sent Packing by eSports League

According to video-gaming website Kotaku, the Electronic Sports League told porn site YouPorn that they will not be allowed to continue to sponsor an eSports team. The team competitively plays video games like Mortal Kombat X, Street Fighter V, Counter-Strike, and the ultra-popular competition game StarCraft II.

YouPorn does absolutely nothing filthy as part of their sponsorship, and created a "Team YP" brand that included no porn connotations, and YouPorn even offered to change the team name to appease the league to no avail.

The ESL responded to the YouPorn issue with this statement:

“Advertising pornography is not legal in the markets we operate in, and the vast majority of partners we’re working with have strict ‘no drugs, no alcohol, no pornography’ rules that we’ve contractually taken on board. These aren’t new rules but ones that have been in our rulebooks for a long time. We have spoken to Team YP's manager earlier this year, and in that conversation we’ve explained the situation and rules in detail and offered to look for potential alternatives in a bigger group. At the same time, we’re consulting with our legal teams about this. We will inform the team and the management as soon as we have any updates.”

Taking the sponsorship away from these players is a pretty big deal, as the sponsorship allows these players to play and kick ass at video games for a living.
