Confused Boner of the Week: Nameru Dake Commercial

Did Lollipops Need to Be More Phallic?

Remember when the commercial for the Shake Weight came out and many of us had a giggle at the people on the commercial using the product? If you aren’t really sure what I’m talking about, then I suggest you go watch South Park season 14, episode 14 entitled “Crème Fraiche." But if you do remember, prepare to find that commercial no longer to be the most sexual innuendo filled commercial of all time. Feast your eyes on the Nameru Dake!

This should come as a shock to no one, but these mushroom-shaped lollipops are made in Japan (Nameru Dake actually translates to the mushroom that you lick). Yes, the weird bookstore and novelty shop Village Vanguard decided to roll out these candies with a rather sexy-ish commercial. It should be noted that the lollipops don’t taste like mushrooms, though that wouldn’t have surprised me—they taste like regular lollipops with flavors like apple and cola. Now, I know some of you are thinking that lollipops and suckers really didn’t need to be any more phallic, and you would be correct. But you know that old saying, “If it ain’t broke, make it more phallic.”

I don’t know if the Nameru Dake will replace actually penis shaped lollipops as the humorous novelty gift of choice, but this commercial will forever replace the Shake Weight. Seriously, I have no idea what is going on right now.
