If you love Aaron Sorkin’s work as much as we do, then you’re probably already obsessed with his new drama, “The Newsroom.” If you’re not a fan of his stuff, or if you’re not the kind of person who cares about shows about walking and talking at the same time, then allow us to remind you that “The Newsroom” is on HBO and stars a bunch of beautiful women who have gone nude in the past.
The way we see it, the three ladies who are most likely to put the “skin” in “Sorkin” (that came out a lot grosser than we intended) are Alison Pill, Emily Mortimer, and Olivia Munn. Let’s examine their respective potentials for nudity. Er, that is, let’s look at the times they’ve been nude in the past!
Alison is the reason for this rhyme; after we saw her beautiful boobs in “Dear Wendy” this morning, we started wondering about what carnal treats “The Newsroom” might bestow upon us. We hope Ms. Pill is one of the bearers of said treats!
This twenty-six year-old Canadian beauty is a star of both stage and screen, and she was even nominated for a Tony Award for her part in “The Lieutenant of Inishmore.” She’s best known for her roles in “Milk,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” and “Midnight in Paris,” but we, at the moment, are most interested in her time as Susan in Lars von Trier’s “Dear Wendy.” Although she hasn’t said much about baring her boobs on camera, Alison’s comments on the film are still pretty hot: “It was a religious experience to pick up a gun,” Pill admits. “I’d never understood the attraction before. But when you’re shooting, it’s almost sexual. There’s an automatic physical change.”
Perhaps she feels the same way about flashing her own twin cannons.
Everybody loves Emily Mortimer! (Well, everybody we love loves her.) She’s part cute and wiry, part soulful and seductive, and at forty years-old, she’s a complete MILF. We’ve seen her naked on a few occasions, but our favorite scene is the one seen above, from 2002′s “Lovely and Amazing.” She bares everything for the camera, and yet the camera really only gets a small portion of all that she gives in that moment.
In a 2011 interview with “O, the Oprah Magazine,” Mortimer described the process of going full frontal for the first time:
I knew that in one of the film’s key scenes, I’d have to stand naked in a bedroom while a sleazy guy, played by Dermot Mulroney, analyzed my body from head to toe. On the day of filming, right before we started shooting, I was in the bed with the sheet pulled up to my chin. I remember thinking, “I wish my mum could come and rescue me” [...] I realized then that I’d spent my whole life peeking out from under the covers. I’d been shy since childhood, constantly full of self-doubt. And as an actor, I’d been so scared of failing that I made my career—and myself—a big joke. But doing that scene showed me that even when I was afraid, I could still close my eyes and jump.
So while Emily might not be ready and raring to get naked again, she’s definitely grown to understand the importance–and maybe even the pleasure–of diving in to something like on-screen nudity.
Who hasn’t spent at least an hour lusting over Olivia Munn? If you haven’t, you have some catching up to do, because as far as we can tell, this lady’s career is more or less based on the fact that you want her but cannot have her. In her thirty-two years on this planet, she’s been a fashion model, a TV host, a sports correspondent, a news correspondent, a spokesperson, a columnist, a memoir writer, a sex expert, a sex symbol, and probably a bunch of other things. Now she’s playing Sloan Sabbith, “a beautiful and brainy on-air economist” on “The Newsroom,” and we’re hoping she’s going to be frugal with her clothing.
Of course, we’ve had our hopes dashed before. We were thrilled to hear about Olivia posing for Playboy in 2009, and then it turned out to be a non-nude shoot. So far, the only time we’ve seen her naked (aside from those alleged naked pics that surfaced earlier this year) is in “Magic Mike,” and that was yesterday! It’s going to take us some time to wrap our heads around this whole concept of Olivia Munn naked. Fortunately, we have some time.
Yes, only two episodes of “The Newsroom” have come and gone, and there are seven episodes left in the season. Our hopes are high, our loins are ready for arousal, and if “The Newsroom” never delivers the bare bodies of Alison Pill, Emily Mortimer, and/or Olivia Munn, then at least we’ve had the pleasure of perusing their physiques in other venues.
And maybe Jane Fonda will get naked!
