Seven Questions With Bobbi Starr: Richard Avery

Choosing the right webmaster is one of the most important decisions a performer can make — it's possibly more important than choosing a name. I've owned BobbiStarr.com since I entered the business, but I agonized for years as to who to work with to put my vision and personality online.

There's a lot of webmasters and they promise the world, but the biggest problem is that all too often these webmasters handle too many girls. Your site looks strangely like the other sites he or she handles.

Richard Avery is committed to only working with a few girls and developing sites that reflect their personality. He was the solution to the conundrum that plagued me for a very long time.

Bobbi Starr: How did you get your start in the business?

Richard Avery: I owe that ALL to Juli Ashton. I was busy shooting my own thing and living the life of a fashion photographer when I met her. She was one of the biggest adult stars at the time and made me an offer I could NOT refuse. Plus I like cute, sexy, nasty grrls who like to make art!

Have you always worked in adult?

NO! I still don?t think what we do at Juliland.com is considered is porn, but it is for adults. Smart adults with great taste and appreciation for quality. Before this I was shooting fashion and what ever anyone would hire me to do. I just always loved creating with my camera and having fun.

What's the craziest assignment you've had in this business?

That would be shooting my first box cover for Juli years ago. Up until then I was doing magazine covers, advertising and super models. So, shooting my first porn BOX cover was not only exciting it was crazy! The end result was amazing and one of her biggest sellers. Then I would so doing everything I do now is just crazy!

Given the problems this industry's facing right now, would you rather work in mainstream or adult?

I think what I do in the Juliland Universe is mainstream compared to most porn out there. I think the shows, movies and fotos we create fit just about anywhere and work worldwide. I do some work in the "mainstream" on the side for friends, but I use a different name so it won?t confuse my fans.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Five years from now... WOW! That one is always tough because I want so much! I guess I just want my universe to keep growing and getting better. I wanna be the best of the best. Keep creating and pushing my vision of what I love to do. Hopefully I won?t get bored or tired. That?s always my biggest fear.

Where do you see the industry five years from now?

It won?t be like it is today! The internet rules ALL. I hope that the industry wakes up and starts creating fresh, creative, quality content and gets away from doing these parodies. I?m sorry, but they are bad. If you gonna make porn, make great porn. The industry will be more spread out than ever. The porn capital of the world is the world. NOT the valley!

What continues to surprise you about this business?

Nothing really. But the one thing that bothers me is that the grrls are starting too young. Before they even understand their own bodies. Before they even know what life really is. They get used up so fast and toss aside even faster. It makes me sad. Grrls, please get good advice, be smart and do your homework before you decide to have a life in adult. Trust NO one!!! Be smart!
