Freedom From Porn? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Freedom From Porn!

A few weeks ago, Steve Jobs infamously told the world that he wanted to give his customers freedom from porn. Shockingly, there’s a whole swath of people who don’t want said freedom—and they’re taking to the streets.

Now, we’d offer that people who don’t like Apple’s ideas about adult content could just, say, not buy Apple products…but on the other hand, we can’t say no to a good piece of agitprop. Especially sexy agitprop.

That has got to be one of the coolest ideas ever. Kudos to them for showing what many of us pervs want.

And this is why I use an Android phone. (Besides, what could go together better than an Android and a Fleshbot?)

This is a great idea! I hope there is more of this in the coming months.

In his exchange with Ryan Tate of Valleywag, Steve Jobs says “… and you might care more about porn when you have kids,” implying that Apple’s censorship efforts are aimed at helping families protect their children from pornography.

But every iDevice Apple sells already includes a parental control feature, with which any parent can restrict access to the Web browser, the App Store, music with explicit lyrics, etc. Apple must believe that these tools are effective, else why would they include them?

So Apple’s censorship is entirely unnecessary. Apple would be performing a much more valuable service by teaching parents how to control what their children see, which would create smarter, more empowered parents, and allow the rest of us to enjoy Apple’s products without the sour taste of censorship.
