Seeing young Anya above, I cannot help but associate her with a memory, & a prurient thought. The first is easily understood, & tame — at 22, 23, just out of college & teaching English in Romania, I knew an Anca. 16, 17, herself, possibly with a mild crush on me — at least in so much as I could mean “Green Card” — but that age, 16, 17… I was not going to step to it.
(Yes. I am a sucker.)
More recently, though, I caught the trailer for the editrix’s most-anticipated film of summer, 500 Days of Summer, including this exchange, between Joseph Gordon-Leavitt (sp?) & Zooey! Deschanel.
JGL: In college, they called me Mr Perfect… ly Adequate & Handsome.
Z!D: They called me Anal Girl.
[JGL spit-take.]
Z!D: … Because I was very neat & organized.
Now, seeing young Anya, I know to say it AHN-yeah, or possibly AHN-cah, but it only comes thru as Anal. Because of Zooey. Also.
I think I like that better than possibly paedarastic reminiscences of a Romanian high-school girl, that said.
