Too Hot For YouTube: This Week In Banned Videos

You may have thought that YouTube’s crackdown on “suggestive” videos would be limited to obviously borderline content—like those popular nipple-free porno trailers. But it’s not just the pornographers who are taking a hit.

Even merely suggestive content, with no nudity, has been deemed ban worthy. Take, for example, this Last Minute Travel commercial. Sure, it’s sexy… but was it really worth a YouTube ban?

This was downright silly. YouTube, you’re wasting your time and money.

They probably had an issue because it was the guy’s head being slammed against the headboard. [Insert crickets chirping here]

It’s just part and parcel of the homogeneity of a large corporately owned business. It really doesn’t surprise me, and in fact, I’d be more surprised (albeit pleasantly so) if they didn’t remove such material.

I’m sure, as time goes on, more and more material will get removed based increasingly Byzantine and conservative TOS policies. With the ever increasing number of companies providing channels for their copyrighted media, they won’t want the possibility of cross-contamination from anything that could be construed as potentially titillating or prurient, however tenuous the link might be.

They have a funky music copyright software system that picks up all copyrighted music and lets you use it – if you don’t mind the copyright owners using it too. Sounds pretty cool.
