Is James Deen The Future Of Male Porn Performers?

We weren’t exactly surprised to learn that James Deen had been crowned 2009 Male Performer of the Year—given all the work he’s done, he’s certainly earned in—but it still seems like a significant win.

A look back at previous award winners reveals a certain pattern—from Evan Stone to Lexington Steele to Tommy Gunn, high ranking male performers tend to be cast from a specific mold, one which, with his hipstery good looks and bountiful youth, James Deen smashes into oblivion.

It’s entirely possible that James is just a blip on the radar—there aren’t that many men, let alone 22-year-olds, who are capable of performing at his level—but for the sake of porn, we hope that the future sees more male performers in the James Deen mold. Not that we don’t love Evan Stone; but a little diversity can go a long, long way.

James Deen is easily my favorite male performer. Evan Stone has that jocular He-Man thing going on and he’s pretty awesome but he’s just too muscular. It doesn’t feel realistic. Deen just plain fucks good and looks like a normal dude. Plus he’s rough without looking like a woman-hater (couchroccocough). He’s got the loving touch. Rough sex ftw!!

I may be in the minority, but I’ve never been fans of Evan Stone type physiques in porn. I understand there is an audience for it, but it seemingly dominated every movie. Would be nice to see some more natural looking guys appearing in the films and the focus being on the girl.

This was my favorite win of the night, not only because it was so well-deserved, but also because he is such a hottie. I agree that most of these male performers are over-built and not attractive at all. Evan Stone? No thanks. Tommy Gunn? Hate that “tool” look.

James is the kind of guy women want and he’s ultimately good for the industry because women like myself will buy porn just to see him. Other than his alt-porn counterpart Tommy Pistol (who seems to have disappeared), there’s not many other current male performers I can say that about.

A little diversity does go a long way. The guy does a great job. He certainly deserved the award.
