Naked Activism: Not Just For PETA Anymore

You don’t have to a be a member of PETA to shed your clothes for a good cause—but really loving the animals doesn’t hurt, either. We’re not sure why boobs go so well with preventing cruelty to our furry little friends, but Vanessa Carbone’s topless whaling protest has certainly won us over to her side. In one way, at least. Ok, here’s the quandary: I want all the evil things – such as whale hunting, the Bush Presidency, and cruelty to animals – haunting this world to be eradicated from human memory. But if my wish were to be granted tonight, then there would be no need for topless protesters to call attention to these injustices tomorrow. And that, my friends, would be a travesty. A tra-vas-ty.

Not definitive — no, I didn’t read the article linked — but if this protest were in Spain, it would be ironic, no? Bull-fighting, la corrida en Pamplona… I support those things, too, but it seems odd to single out Japan (& Norway) for animal cruelty, when the audience that abhors whaling as well loathes the “maltreatment” of bulls.
