The mainstream press may have hailed Sasha Grey a crossover star, but Amelia G’s not so sure she agrees. Perhaps instead of drawing a line in the sand between porn and “mainstream” media, we should throw out all the labels and just recognize Sasha as a star, period. Oh, and she’s also thrown in a gallery of the lovely Sasha… which definitely makes her argument all the more compelling. (blueblood.net)

Sasha is an enigma all to herself. Plain and simple.

Has Sasha ever done a scene with Stoya? Cause that would be so hot my brain would explode (among other things…).

I’m waiting for the Sasha Grey/Megan Fox crossover makeout session myself…

The whole notion of crossover, as generally used in this context, comes across as demeaning. It tends to come across like Sasha Grey being a huge star does not count because she is a star in porn. Maybe my punk roots don’t allow me to accept the expression “mainstream” as a compliment.

Sasha Grey is already a star. If she racks up achievements in multiple forms of media, she will still be a star. One thing I find extremely cool about Sasha Grey is that she comes across like she knows this, like she understands she is already a star, and is not waiting by the phone for approval from another industry.

I did write about Ice Cube earlier this month [www.blueblood.net] Not sure if you were referencing that or not.

Why the polemic in being referred to as a cross-over star? What is demeaning or marginalising in the adjective? Sasha Grey was & is a star in adult-film, & she is crossing the Valley to appear, as a lead, in a non-adult production. It’s really no different than Ice Cube getting cast in Boyz ‘n the Hood & Anaconda, or Queen Latifah in Chicago or Stranger than Fiction. They were stars in the area of rap (music), who went on to prominent success in another (entertainment) related venue. They crossed over. So, too, Sasha Grey, just instead of rapping about popping caps, she was inducing the busting of nuts.

& to the other argument, that Ms Grey’s appearance is no different than Kobe Tai appearing as stripper in Very Bad Things — or Nautica Thorn & Stormy Daniels doing the same in Knocked Up — the difference is the same as between cameo & lead. It’s Devendra Banhart in Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, back to the camera, buying chips or a paper at a convenience store, versus Mark Wahlbeg portraying Dirk Diggler. No comparison!

I agree wholeheartedly with the notion that stardom in adult should count just as much as stardom achieved in any other field. I imagine that porn stars of the stature of Jenna, Tera, etc. are actually much better known and liked by the public than the Blake Livelys of the world, even if the latter get all the fawning treatment from the mainstream press. Sasha strikes me as a considerably more interesting person than Lively or most of her ilk, and if her role in “The Girlfriend Experience” gives her some more mainstream attention than she’s already gotten, good for her and for us. The reason for the opprobrium usually attached to the word “crossover” in the porn realm is that girls trying to do that tend to be softcore vanilla performers. Sasha’s already amply demonstrated her hardcore bona fides, and if she’s able to branch out from there successfully into other media, what’s there to complain about?
