2008_05_20_taxes.jpgAs disturbing as it is to hear about a proposed 25 percent tax on revenues from adult entertainment in California, we’re even more startled by the claim that “Every second, $3,000 is being spent on adult entertainment”–though we should also remind you that you’re not spending a cent as long as you’re sitting there reading about porn taxes on Fleshbot. Feel free to buy us a beer with the money you’re saving the next time you see us, k? (news.yahoo.com – thanks Andre; thumbnail via CoedsNeedCash.com)

Should have elected Mary Carey during the recall. She would have been able to set up a Governor’s Mansion Webcam Site. 10.95$ per month to have unlimited access to the Executive… Branch. Don’t tell me those DC types — even, say, Andrew Sullivan (who prefers peen, as we all know) — wouldn’t subscribe to it.

I only hope that if “Adult Entertainment” is taxed and thus becomes a revenue source, they won’t continue trying to shut it down and make it illegal. Goose, golden egg &c.

Considering how much money you’ve saved me, I owe someone at Fleshbot quite a few beers… how do I pay up?

Don’t they understand that they’re depriving those lovely scratch n’ sniff coeds of their hard-earned and valuable textbook buying dollars? My copies of Tight magazine may not buy themselves, but I would assume their overhead is through (josereyesthe) roof!

@josereyes.theroof: The Daily Kos posts would be legendary, because reading about porn is the new looking at porn!

@Brian47: Shelley Lubben doesn’t get it, either.

Taxing adult entertainment is simply severe punishment for being an adult and it’s a terrible idea. I can’t believe this is California. Tax on smoking, I can see that, it’s harmful to the smoker and those around the smoker, but why tax me on what I watch at home with the blinds closed? Or tax on what happens behind closed doors at a club? No one gets hurt and I just don’t get it.
