    Comment on She is the niece of Antonio María Rouco Varela, catholic cardinal and
    Archbishop of Madrid. Amongs other charges, he is the President of the
    “Conferencia Episcopal Española”, an entity that represents the Roman
    Catholic Church in Spain. Since the CEE and the Jesuites control the
    biggest piece of cake in the COPE (the second main conservative media
    conglomerate in Spain) he is one of -if not THE- most influential
    figure of the christian right wing in Spain.

    He is a borderline-to-extreme conservative, and he is strongly
    anti-pro-choice, radically opposed to homosexuality and well, you
    imagine the rest. So, while the cover – and the girl, btw aren’t
    actually a big deal, the embarrassment she has poured over the guy and
    his traditionally ‘decent’ family is causing a big amount of joy to
    his detractors -who are many, including myself-. Another mistep for
    the decrepit, outdated and mockable Spanish Church. Let’s hope the
    show goes on…

    Had Aznar won the election in March ’04, this never would have happened. Barring that, had it happened, Magdalena would have been the first desaparecida since the Franquist hey-day. Goes to reason, though: Partido Popular is the Alianza Popular is the Fascist Party (Falange) in Spain. People’s Party, indeed; undersexed people, maybe.
