2007_03_26_abc.jpgWe missed Diane Sawyer’s expose/Spitzermania cash-in “Prostitution in America” on 20/20, but apparently some people didn’t feel it was an even-handed and informative report—specifically, people who have actually been sex workers. You mean a TV news program broadcast something that might have been somewhat biased or misleading? Shocking! (abcnews.go.com + sex-kitten.net)

I just read the link, but as much as they accuse Diane Sawyer of not being objective, they are also not objective. (Seriously, there are no objective news stories anymore. They are mostly opinion with the facts to back up said opinions and nothing more.) I watched the show and what I saw was a problem, and it needs to be dealt with. At the same time, I am sure there are prostitutes out there that are very happy with what they do. They are not part of the problem. I think what this did was to show these women in a human light. Maybe someone will think of that before they just pronounce these women “whores” or “no bodies”. Every human being has worth including the ones who live on the fringes of society. The story of Jesus and the prostitute at the end was telling. As they were tormenting her, he came forward and drew a line in the sand and said “You without sin, cast the first stone.” Maybe people will think about this the next time they want to cast a stone.
