CBS At AVN: They Silenced Our Sasha!

2008_1_1sg.jpgGenial “CBS This Morning” host Bill Geist was one of the less bitter media types covering the (yes, we’re still talking about it) AVN Awards, but even he could not see clear to airing his short interview with Sasha Grey, which went like this:

Geist: What is it like to win an “Oscar of Porn”?
Grey: It’s just so fucking good to be finally fucking appreciated.

CBS’ coverage of the awards was bemused rather than mocking, which is a step up from the attention porn usually receives from the mainstream world.

I’ve written a letter of complaint to CBS complaining that they should not have covered a selectively homophobic porn awards show. The AVN awards discriminate against male-male sexual interactions. They give the impression that only female-female is acceptable in the mainstream. CBS shouldn’t give air-time to them.

@jonno44: You’ve already made your (misguided and ill-informed) point about AVN being “homophobic” in several other posts this week; you don’t need to keep making it in every single thing we continue to post about the AVN Awards. Thanks.

@jonno44: You’ve already made your (questionable) point about AVN being “homophobic” in several other places around here this week; there’s no need to keep reiterating it every time we mention the AVN Awards from here on out. Thanks.

As small a step as it might be, I think CBS ought to be praised for covering (heh) the AVN awards and expo, particularly in light of a number of the comments CBS received on the page you’ve linked here. I don’t think they should receive largely negative feedback from their viewers. It’s refreshing to see a glimmer of sanity in the mainstream media. I just hope it’s not snuffed out by the uptight ignorant people who can’t choose to leave the room or change the channel after being warned, but would rather dictate what everybody else watches.

@undershaker: Indeed! GAYVN will be held on Feb 24th.
@jonno44, you’ve said your piece (several times) but taken no valid comments in response on board. I for one, truly hope that the Sahsa Grey’s get more recognition than ridicule for a job well done!

Plus, isn’t there a “GAYVN” awards show, either directly before or after the “mainstream” AVN presentation?
