While the kids in New York are having sex in bathroom stalls and celebrating the joys of “Hookin’ Up”, Julia Ayabe and her team of seasoned fetish veterans in Tokyo have been busy organizing regular events for the long-running Tokyo Perve, described as Japan’s “hardest core” underground fetish party. Actually, it seems like things aren’t really as wild and crazy as that might sound: Julia says that there isn’t as much bloody medical play as there used to be, the polite crowd generally apologizies when they do things like break chandeliers during their BDSM demonstrations, and the dress code is more about what people are wearing than what they aren’t (no bare bottoms allowed). But in their half dozen or so events every year—many of which you can relive via photo galleries on the TP website—the Tokyo Perve team still have plenty of opportunities to prove that the Japanese really are as kinky as we think they are: in fact, as Julia says, “They’re by far the kinkiest. Like really fucking kinky.” So, like, now you know.
