Exploring Particle Physics With Sophia Santi

We don’t remember whether we noticed what Sophia Santi was reading when we met her at the Digital Playground booth at the AVN Expo a few months ago, but had we been less distracted by her gorgeous eyes and that stunning dragon tattoo on her back we might have been able to strike up a conversation about particle physics and quantum proof of the existence of God: as she explained in an on-set interview for XFanz last week, “Particle physics proves the existence of god … You need observation to collapse possibilities. Before the big bang, you needed a consciousness to collapse everything into one thing.” Sophia’s extracurricular studies don’t set too well with some of her admirers, however: “I once met a fan, and after he spoke with me for awhile and found out I was really intelligent, he said, ‘Wow, that totally killed the fantasy for me.’” No need to worry about that happening with us, Sophia—if there’s anything that turns us on more than hot girl-on-girl action, it’s things like vision boards and the simultaneous observation of all possible states of being by a conscious entity. Now that we know you’re well-rounded in more ways than just the obvious, we’re crushing on you more than ever.

    I would like to respectfully disagree with Ms. Santi. Although observation is required to collapse any superposition of states, such observation need not be carried out by anything remotely resembling a sentient being. Superpositions are often created, and then observed-and-collapsed in laboratories without a human eye getting any closer to them than a monitor tied to a bank of supercomputers receiving data from an array of detectors, lasers, and perhaps a magnetic field or two. In nature, the average superposition of states occurs due to random particle interaction, and it ceases to exist because of the same random particle interaction.

    Consider an electron in superposition between spin-up and spin-down. That electron can be observed (in this case, perhaps by the force “felt” due to charge) by another electron of spin-up, and their interaction will be sufficient to determine the spin of the electron in superposition.

    Also, as time began at the Big Bang, postulating the actions or perceptions of anything before it is a bit like (to borrow Stephen Hawking’s phrase) asking what’s North of the North Pole.

    My disagreements aside, Ms. Santi, I applaud your “extracurricular studies” (well put, Fleshbot), and find you just as gastosa (well put again, Fleshbot) as ever.

    Additionally, time as we know it doesn’t work in a way that makes “before the big bang” mean anything physical.

    She’s at best a religious quack with poor critical thinking skills.
