SuicideGirls vs. Lithium Picnic

2007_02_16_lp.jpg

No stranger to legal brouhaha, those wacky kids at SuicideGirls are at it again: this time, they’re suing the photographer known as Lithium Picnic, who was largely responsible for creating the SG “look” in thousands of photographs on the site and who worked for them until last November but now shoots with former SG model Apnea(pictured) and therefore is now considered an altporn competitor which is a violation of his SG contract. Get all that? It doesn’t matter, because all you really need to know is that Lithium Picnic has been working hard since we last checked in with him and has made quite a few tasty updates to his site, including many new photos to peruse. He’s also selling some exclusive prints in order to raise money for his legal defense. Since we aren’t lawyers we can’t really weigh on on whether the lawsuit is a valid one or not, but with all the squares who are down on porn these days it would be nice to see a little more harmony in this business we call adult. Plus, anything that distracts him from producing more of these sexy pictures isn’t helping anybody. Can’t we all just get along?

Has anyone even read the SG contracts? Jesus. I know engineers from the Department of Defense that have more right to their own work.

My friend was going to submit some of the photos I did of her then I read the SG contract and realized that by doing so anything I ever did, ever again, in any medium, in any name, and any reality or dimension would be their wholly owned property. I think their contract might have made her a wholly owned property as well.

That was just for their general “submit your photos, become an SG” contract. I can only imagine what the non-compete they have their actually employees sign looks like.

SG is totally lame in this regard. Poor Lithium Picnic.

SG is basically a site that pretends to be about female empowerment, but treats its girls like slaves. My friend (formerly Perl – of the original Burlesque Tour) joined the site in its infancy. She was told it was about girlpower, and strong independent women. When she spoke out about how the guy running it wasn’t treating girls well, they banned her from the site and began selling her images to hardcore adult sites, as a method of “vengeance”. I still come across her pictures when surfing the occasional alt-girl porn site, and I know that to this day she only ever did shoots with SG.

If you’re going to produce porn, own up to it. Don’t pass it off as anything but.
