(Long Live The) Flesh Flicks: Femdoms in Latex

This week’s edition of "Open Source Sex"—the San Francisco Chronicle column penned by our Fleshy cohort Violet Blue—looks at the proliferation of adults-only video uploading sites. You know … the YouTube clones that allow us to bring you things like teddy bear fucking every day of the week. Since the original YouTube decided not to exploit the thousands of webcam videos, homemade jerkoff clips, and XXX movie trailers just waiting to be monetized, there’s plenty of competitors willing to give it a shot, with varying degrees of success. We’re still waiting to see if any of them can take over the market and become a bona fide web business, but honestly … as long as we can embed videos of a rubber slave having his nipples tortured by a dominatrix and her cage-dwelling assistant, we don’t really care where they come from.

I find it interesting that the internet seems to allow us to watch years and years of change summed up in a matter of months. We had the creation of YouTube in January of 2005. We watch as time progresses, and soon people begin to use this media outlet as a form of pornography. This causes a large number of people to join the YouTube revolution, and at a time the main reason I, along with a number of other early-adopters were using the service was simply for the pornographic nature of the site. Soon, YouTube began spending much more energy restricting the use of its bandwidth from pornographic means, and at the same time became more main stream, being used to watch TV shows, commercials, and other entertaining videos. Now we are coming full circle with talks about how GooTube could potentially use the service for more pornographic means.

The whole thing reminds me of the history of DVDs, just on crack. I think the internet is amazing at showing us these trends and how pornography and many other taboo factors are affecting our society.
